After Datto was acquired by Kaseya, we were seeking an alternate solution. We landed on Axcient x360Recover on word of mouth from other MSPs and were pleasantly surprised. The product does what it says on the tin, is truly secure (we choose our own encryption keys), and provides critical uptime for our clients in the event of an emergency. We are also very happy that our data is stored just a few hours away in Kelowna (we are a Vancouver-based IT provider working with clients in the legal + healthcare spaces and storing our clients' data in Canada is important). Overall, we are also pleased that Axcient x360Recover takes customer feedback seriously and allows us to suggest improvements right from the partner portal. Besides that, the software just works. We recommend Axcient x360Recover.
  • Business Continuity
  • Ease of use
  • Reliable
  • We'd like to see the Microsoft 365 product on Canadian soil. The team has acknowledged this and it's been moved to the pipeline.
Axcient x360Recover is suitable for all environments. We like the direct-to-cloud and use it almost everywhere. We have yet to deploy appliances, as there is simply no need given sufficient bandwidth these days.

We are in the process of moving all of our clients to Axcient x360Recover. Their support, capabilities, and pricing are far superior to who we have used in the past. They take our feedback to heart and have implemented changes in the product directly off our own feedback. We have enjoyed the relationship with them extensively.
  • More exhaustive Microsoft 365 backup granularity
  • Time based retention
Well suited for clients looking for an extremely reliable yet low cost backup and recovery solution for servers, workstation, Azure VMs, or Microsoft 365. Not appropriate at the moment for clients looking for the ability to retain data based on time-based restrictions as Axcient x360Recover currently keeps everything forever.

We needed a cost-effective solution that provided adequate system backups and required little time to manage. Axcient x360Recover fit our needs perfectly, and their support has always been above-par. We use Axcient x360Recover to back up our internal servers. We also deploy Axcient x360Recover within our client's networks. The direct-to-cloud service works great for clients that need data protection but not onsite virtualization. \Axcient x360Recover performs regular image-based local backups and replicate to the cloud while providing virtualization capabilities in case of server failure.
  • Backup status reports are well designed and require little management time
  • Knowledgeable and personable support staff when you need
  • Multi-tenant cloud-based backup management
  • Appliance leasing at affordable monthly cost
  • Local drive cache when you need quick data restoration without an on-site virtualization appliance
  • Client-side backup agent lacks GUI-based configuration
  • Licensing portal is a bit non-intuitive
  • Appliance repurposing could be simpler
We've found that the Axcient x360Recover appliance shines in small business networks with a single domain controller. For small businesses that are budget constrained, the device alleviates much of the concern from needing additional domain controllers. Within 5 minutes, you can virtualize the server image from the previous hour, and your client's computers continue functioning as if there were no server failures. Modifying the backup policy retention gives you the ability to store images from even years in the past. Storage usage isn't part of the recurring costs.

We deploy this via HAAS/SAAS based on our client's contract. We deploy combination our own appliances and D2C. We use Axcient for BCDR, File and image based recovery. We also use the appliances capabilities to move data and servers around during project execution. Our NOC team monitors and maintains the backup integrity and participates in large scale recoveries.
  • Recovery, the wide variety on how we can recover has been very helpful
  • Ease of access via the portal to allow us to easily manage many devices.
  • Support is responsive
  • It would be nice for our skilled technicians skip tier1 support on some issues.
  • Reporting, its getting better but would like to see more
  • Relaying hardware issues from BDR as tickets to our PSA
Axcient is well suited at clients that need backups that can be recovered or spun up on a BDR, having a cloud replication that can be spun up is also a bonus. Clients that don't have server infrastructure has been a challenge to get Axcient in place. However we are seeing more traction with the introduction of D2C with the premises repository. One request there would be to allow backups to the cloud take place whether the on premises device is available or not.

We user Axcient X360Recover as our primary backup solution for all of our clients. We primarily use the BDR option, but in some cases do use the Direct to Cloud solution as well. We love the BDR solution because we can get a problem deivce back up and running as a VM within an hour, easily. To the client, they're working as they were before while we take the server or workstation that has gone down and we repair it.
  • Virtualization
  • Ease of Setup
  • File Recovery from User Interface
  • Storage Reports could be better
  • Monitoring BDR Health
  • Support can take a while to respond.
We had a competitor that had their windows-based backups all hit with Cryptolocker due to one weak password. In my experience, because x360Recover is Linux-based, Cryptolocker has never once corrupted any of our backups. We have always been able to find when the issue started, and recover back before that time.

We have been using the Axcient x360Recover to provide disaster recovery solutions for many of our clients ranging from small to large businesses. The direct to cloud backup solution is an affordable option for many of our small business clients, while the option for on-premise appliances has been a good option for the medium to large businesses.
  • Axcient x360Recover allows for backup of virtual servers as well as mobile user equipment.
  • Scheduling for backups using Axcient x360Recover during non-business hour time-frames is very helpful
  • Adjustment of the Axcient x360Recover service for both internet and internal bandwidth usage based on time-frames.
  • The management portal for Axcient x360Recover is not the most intuitive, but after going through some training the system makes sense.
The Axcient x360Recover solution has allowed us to provide a disaster recovery solution for organizations that do not want to spend additional capital on local backup appliances.

We also use the solution internally to backup our own servers.
It provides us with peace of mind that all our clients critical servers and workstations are being backed up and can be restore within 15 minutes.
  • Easy setup
  • Easy monitoring
  • Great support
  • Comprehensive backup solution
  • Implementing MFA at the appliance level
Any clients that has on premise or cloud based critical servers.
It is the most reliable solution for the price and it also offers the best service in that price range.
It also works extremely well and is very competitively priced for workstations with their direct-to-cloud offering.
You can backup on as little as 15 minutes interval which provide great flexibility.

Backup a few hundred Workstations and Servers to D2C. Also dozens of servers on Replibit Applicances. x360Sync to organize and share files for several clients. X360 Cloud to backup several clients Azure directories.
  • Back up files
  • Generate backup images for restoration
  • Mount and Browse backup directories
  • Better user management for Client access
  • More reliable bare Metal Recovery process (rarely works)
  • More reliable downloads for large files
Good:
-Recovering single or groups of files from a backup image.
-Timely Support
-Documentation of most common tasks

Not great:
-Recovering a Windows Backup Image to a new PC, and it actually boots up properly. (Many issues in past)
-Unstable platform (x360Recover tools, browser, etc.)
-Too many management portals (Replibit)
-No MacOS support

  • Integration & Deployment
  • Improves Customer relations
  • Purchase is expensive
  • Less tutorials and knowledge
  • Spoc and support needs to be available
  • User community needs to be strong
  • Performance should be more cloud based
For regular operational window task and daily tallying of purchases and tenure calculations. An example of pricing negotiations for tenure contractors was lost due to COVID data loss but somehow we were able to recover same in less time and analyse the big future picture easily.

We use Axcient x360Recover for backup and disaster recovery processes. It helps us with continuous backups and helps us recover in case of data loss.It also helps us monitor and fix troublesome device issues. The best part is the virtualization of one or more systems in the Axcient Cloud to review the backup points before returning to production.
  • Backup of different appliances on a single login portal
  • Virtualization of existing backup store points
  • Monitor and remediate the issues with backup failures
  • Windows, VMware, Hyper-V, and IaaS for multiple use cases
  • Last backup time and details error on how to fix them
  • Speed of backup store points can be increased while accessing
  • Reporting of all devices with last backup successful time
This is well suited for the backup of different appliances, i.e., Windows, VMware, and other SAAS and IAAS products. We use Axcient x360Cloud to backup the server and workstations, and it makes it very easy to find and recover deleted data in case it is needed. It is less appropriate when we are trying to open the virtual machines of the backup storepoints and the speed is very slow.

I have been using this since it was Replibit. Then eFolder bought it. Then eFolder became Axcient and rebranded Replibit to Axcient x360Recover. This is an excellent product that just works. Over the past 7 years I have only needed to contact support a handful of times, and they got issue resolved quickly. It has also saved my bacon more than once. From accidental deletions to full servers dying in the middle of the workday. Highly recommend.
  • Image based backups.
  • Direct to cloud.
  • Fast virtual spin up and restore.
  • Hypervisor backup.
Great for image-based backups. Whether on dedicated appliance that I build my BDR out of or direct to cloud with local cache. Would be nice if I could just add a hyper visor to it and have it back up the virtuals located on said hyper visor.

We use this as a primary backup appliance. Images and backups are stored local and then have the ability to send to Axcient's cloud for off site storage and safe keeping. Was very easy to install, deploy, and configure. Support and sales have ALWAYS been outstanding, never had a single issue with either of those two with this product.

Solves several issues:
- Quick access to backups kept locally
- Images kept on Axcient's cloud
- DR can be spun up from the Axcient cloud should a disaster occur
- Works with both Windows and Linux VMs (Last I checked it did require a second product to be purchased to support Linux side backups)
- Works with ISCSI attached storage as well as physical or virtual environments - Not all solutions will connect to and back up volumes/ drives attached to operating systems using ISCSI to connect volumes using MPIO for example within Windows.
  • Support is amazing, fast, never had a single issue working with support when needed. (Doesn't happen very often either that I have to contact support)
  • Sales has been amazing as well. Anything I've ever needed I fire off an email and have a response very quickly and am taken care.
  • Deploying inside a VMware environment using Windows based serves was painless and quick
  • Support for direct mapped ISCSI via MPIO within Windows is crucial when backing up performance dependent servers and this does it all
  • Ability to send backups to their cloud is key for DR operations. Support teams will assist with configurations, testing, setup and should a DR occur will be on the phone with you from start to finish.
  • It would be nice for the Windows and Linux options to be integrated into a single product vs having to have two separate purchases
  • Price point is a little on the high side
If you have a mostly Windows environment (virtual or physical doesn't matter) and need the ability to vault those backups off site, this is the product for you hands down.

It does support Linux however; it's covered under another product r license separate from the Windows side.
DR provides the ability to spin up your backups or system images online for quick and easy access.

If you have servers using direct attached iSCSI volumes and need them backed up, this product will provide that ability. Many others still can't backup a volume if its attached via iSCSI.

Our company is currently using Axcient as a disaster recovery solution. We have an onsite device that is mirrored to an offsite device that resides in the Axcient data centers. These devices contain full backups of our entire virtual (VMware) server environment. Both the onsite and offsite devices are able to act as a replacement for our live production VMware servers in the event of a disaster. I can spin up all of my virtual servers on either device (onsite for non-physical environment emergencies - like server failure / offsite in the "cloud" with remote desktop connectivity to those same servers - for physical environment failures). The offsite server can also be delivered to me overnight should that needs arise for longer-term recovery efforts.
  • Support - their email support team is top notch. Let me put it this way. I receive an email that a backup failed. I forward to support. I receive the auto-reply in a second and a real response with the hour. They take it from there and fix the issue, run test backups, and confirm with me that the backups are now working properly. Can you ask for more from a support team?
  • System upgrades are fully inclusive with your service contract, and they are handled directly by support.
  • The device is very stable . It rarely if ever requires a reboot.
  • Super easy to run spin-up tests on my virtual servers without affecting the backups - onsite and cloud.
  • 24-hour overnight shipping of cloud device if needed/
  • Price -- I guess they are in the ballpark of market, I just felt the price was a bit high on startup + ongoing...
  • Auto-updates of the client that is deployed. I had to manually update after the system update.
Axcient is not well-suited for small companies -- the price point is just too steep. Also, I wouldn't recommend unless you have a heavy virtual infrastructure. That is where Axcient excels. We had 12 virtual devices at our peak, and Axcient handled all with elegance and ease. If you are looking for a cloud-based disaster recovery solution for a virtual environment, Axcient will do nicely for you.

As a managed services provider, we've deployed Axcient units to dozens of our customers environments to handle backing up their entire server infrastructure.
  • File-level restore speed. Because of the way backup data is stored (most recent backup is stored as a full image, with incrementals available for going back in time), restoring recently lost data is reasonably fast. This is, most often, what we find ourselves needing to do so it's a nice attribute. It's also the inverse of how several competing products store their data.
  • Easy to deploy. Getting the units on-site and on-line is plenty easy enough that it can be delegated to the most Jr. Level field tech and they'd be hard pressed to do it wrong. Once the unit has an internet connection, all provisioning can be done remotely - and even then, there isn't much to it.
  • We have a 100% failure rate for full-system restores. After our 3rd complete failure, Axcient flew an engineer to our location, they brought along their own BDR with a copy of our off-site data and spent two full days attempting to restore both from the BDR they brought and the BDR in the customer environment - they went home a complete failure.
  • Axcient support is singularly focused on supporting their appliance, regardless of consequences to the rest of your environment. They have no problem recommending such things as deleting all shadow copies on a protected system when their software fails to clean up the one that it has created. When investigating issues I have reported to them they have repeatedly kicked off full backups of systems in the middle of the day and let them run until users complain about system performance. They continue to do this despite my increasingly bitter complaints.
  • Linux "support" is a significant overstatement. Linux systems can only be backed up through Samba. You cannot do a "full system restore" of a Linux machine, nor can you run it as a virtual machine on the appliance. Being backed up through Samba means file attributes (ex: immutable, append-only, etc.) are lost and only "regular" files can be backed up (forget about device files, fifos, sockets, etc - all of those would need to be recreated manually in a disaster recovery situation). Axcient has no capacity to run pre/post backup commands on the target system, so you cannot directly trigger `flush` or mysqldump or anything else useful in making sure you're getting anything other than a crash-consistent backup of some selected files. Don't fail to realize that this backup method means you'll have to log into your Linux machine through Samba as a user with read permission on all files you intend to back up; Axcient recommends you use "root" (a cardinal sin).
  • Backup times are mysterious and impossible to predict. Examples from a single customer environment: A server with 620GB of data (and a high change rate) takes ~6 hours to back up and a server with roughly 90GB of data (and a particularly LOW change rate) takes 9.5 hours. The times for these machines are consistent. These are both virtual machines running on top of ESXi 5.1 with with more than enough RAM,CPU and IOPS dedicated to them. Axcient support simply states that this is normal behavior and we are not to be concerned.
  • Everything is slow. 9.5 hours to back up 90GB of data. Offsite transfers consume an inordinate amount of bandwidth compared to competing products we have deployed. My suspicion is that this is at least partially because entire files are being copied instead of changed blocks.
  • "Image level" backups aren't actually image level at all. All backups are done at a file level, the "image" backup job type just means it will automatically select all volumes on the target system and get a system state backup as well.
  • "Agentless" backup system... has an agent. Scripts and a delightful executable by the name of "axexesvc.exe"are pushed to and executed on each protected windows system for every backup. This "agentless agent" can have all of the same problems that any other agent can have (such as hanging, running forever, consuming all available system resources, etc.), but also brings with it a fairly unique added gaping security flaw. axexesvc.exe is effectively a trojan horse from Axcient, allowing Axcient's employees to remotely execute any arbitrary command or code on any system in your network using the privileges of whatever account you run your backups as (commonly and per Axcient recommendations: a domain admin level user). There are no restrictions on what they can do or when they can do it and there is no logging of their activity. We have had multiple occasions where Axcient's support staff have abused this "back door" to the detriment of our customers production servers.
If you have or will have any Linux systems in your target environment, Axcient is not a proper fit. If you have backup window or bandwidth constraints, Axcient is not a good fit. If you have more than about six servers or a total of 1TB worth of data, Axcient is probably not the best fit. If you are subject to any kind of regulation (ex: HIPPA, SOX, CJIS) and don't enjoy the thought of Axcient support exploiting domain admin privileges on your servers to execute arbitrary changes, run screaming in any direction other than Axcient. If you have a small office of around 3 Windows servers with a relatively low rate of change and a modest recovery time objective, with a decent upstream connection that it can use unencumbered through the night and zero interest in the integrity or privacy of your data... Axcient is probably a pretty great fit for its ease of deployment and ease of management. In the actual words of one Axcient VP "It probably makes sense for you to run Unitrends while we are validating things"

I had the pleasure to install the Axcient device for a client of mine to backup their Windows Hyper-V infrastructure.
  • Unbelievably easy to set up and configure. I was backing up the servers in less then 20 mins.
  • Support is fantastic, I needed them for a very minor issue and they got it resolve very fast.
  • It is just an amazing product, just wish it wasn't so expensive or I would be deploying it to more clients.
Can your company afford it? I would like to see it replace tape or disk based backups. Can you fit the server in to a physical location in your office?

Axcient is a great mid-level backup solution with a great mix of OnPrem appliance and Cloud based backup, coupled with live visualization of a failed host on the appliance. Easily deployed and configured for a wide range of client environments. Axcient has proven to be invaluable in several recent systems failures. With the OnPrem appliance we were able to rapidly spin up virtual instances of the failed systems allowing our clients to return to operations quickly and seamlessly while we affected repairs to the production hardware.
  • Fully integrated product support that is always ready to assist with even the most basic issues
  • Detailed product status and health dashboard for service providers
  • Robust development cycle always open to making product improvements
  • Some key issues with the product update process delayed remediation of issues. These included spotty or slow deployment of firmware updates, delays in execution of requests by the support team, and a few instances of having to chase support down to get them to complete work requested. Most issues were addressed a while ago, but these were challenges we faced during ramp up.
  • Firmware updates were difficult to schedule at times. We would learn of a fix being available to address an issue but the support team was not always very attentive on deploying the firmware when asked. Later on, they became pretty efficient on getting them out in a timely fashion.
  • Inconsistent response from support, both in timeliness and in answers to questions. Some of their support staff were very green, and some were less than polite at times. We would submit the same issue and error code for multiple devices, and the answered returned as to the root cause would vary greatly.
  • Logging and self remediation was limited, much of the meat and potatoes error coding was not exposed to the admin site or the vendor portal. We would have to engage support for any complex issues, delaying resolution and putting backups on hold while we wait.
Axcient is well suited for the mid-range SMB client, but is not ideal for large complex environments with varying backup requirements. I found that whatever you think you need for backup capacity it is safer to double it.

Axcient is being used in our headquarters, and we have not had many issues with the product. At our remote sites it doesn't work as well as we would like, but there are other solutions for those locations. I am certified in the solution which is a benefit to the organization and the 13 devices we currently backup. We have not had to use the option to spin up a virtual machine from an image backup, and hope that we do not have to. In the event, the documentation to do so is pretty helpful. The solution addresses deleted file issues.
  • Image backups - backup your entire server
  • File backups - if you run virtual machines just backup the important files
  • These are strengths in the even of an outage, or a crash
  • The RMC
  • The UMC
  • Offsite Backups run for weeks - 3+ TB of data
It is an onsite full backup solution but not recommended for remote site backup when the appliance is at the main location/site.

I work for a MSP (Managed Service Provider) and we have thousands of clients we support. We are offering the Axcient product as a solution to backup a client's server locally and to the cloud and provide the ability to spin up a virtual machine locally for continuity in case a server is down, restore files, restore entire servers from a crash (bare metal) and also spinning up virtual machines in the cloud for disaster recovery and continuity if users need to work outside of the office.

Our company began using Axcient in 2012. I was brought in from the beginning as bugs were worked out and we created our standard on how to implement the solution. A year later myself and the manager of our Backup dept were flown to Axcient Headquarters to meet the Axcient staff that we worked with every day.

My impression of Axcient is that their solution is heading in the right direction. In the beginning (firmware 3-4) even the basic offsite process took forever and we had to constantly send out DAS devices (Direct Attached Storage) to copy the data from their onsite Linux appliance that all servers backed up data to. Since version 5.0 we have seen significant improvements on offsite speed and version 6.x has been great on onsite/backup copy speed. More improvements are to come that will make this product even better.

They still lack true native VM backup ability like Veeam and therefore every VM acts as it's own server being backed up at the VSS level. Axcient does it's best to keep up with firmware editions but at times they are released prematurely only to find major issues with them. We tend to stay a few versions back. Our company now has a dedicated backup team and Axcient has been our flagship to offer clients.
  • Local virtual machine can be launched from the image backups stored locally
  • Ability to manage multiple clients/appliances from their RMC (Remote Management Console) is a must for MSPs and Axcient provides this
  • Cloud continuity to load up Virtual Machines offsite in the cloud
  • Onsite backup speed, it's improving but it is in the works to get better
  • Automated firmware updates that work around backups that run
  • Ability to manage alerts by template if you are setting up local appliance alerts
Does the client have multiple on-premise servers that they cannot afford to be down for more than 1 hour? A virtual machine can be brought online from an image in a few minutes depending on machine size. You can also have the virtual machines run on standby for faster deployment.
